 March 4-7, Family camping time

But first our delay:




Yes we were ready to go, however,  on backing up Dennis got buried in the soft sand. Jen had already left for the camp ground. We had Charlie and Calvin who wanted to ride with us. Dennis and I literally dug with our hands and shovels to move the sand away from the tires. 


After over an hour or more and my nagging Dennis finally called for assistance. We had to wait over an hour for a truck to come from Haines City. And within 10 minutes we were out. ($$$$$$$$) Ouch!
We ended up driving in the dark, I made sandwiches while on the move for our dinner and Calvin entertained Charlie and I found him a movie to watch on my phone. We finally got to the camp after 9. First thing Charlie noticed was that the water park was not open for the season yet and he thought we just ought to pack up and go home. Yes he was tired. 







   We started our seasonal travel with family camping. Jen, Glenn and the children along with Calvin and Avery joined us. The kids were hoping to use the mud track so Glenn worked hard to put the 4-wheeler in the bed of the truck. However we’re told they could not even take it out of the truck. Bummer. We had fun flying kites, riding bikes and building camp fires and playing 20 questions. Wow the kids loved this game. Turns out Gracie our 5 year old tricked us every time. She even asked great questions. 

   It was cold but the fires were warm. It was sad to say good bye. We headed to Georgia and they headed back to Riverview on Monday. Family camping has become something we really enjoy.

 All settled in Tiffin territory. A little chilly here today. Staying at 1st Class Glass waiting till Monday to have Tiffin people come and evaluate our to-do list. Went to lunch at Cole’s BBQ across the border in Mississippi. Small hole in the wall place on a tight corner. Great pulled por, fried green tomatoes and pickles.  Picked up some supplies from the Ace hardware store inside a Piggily Wiggly. We are in northern Alabama for sure   Visited the Allegro Club back in Red Bay and learned about some interesting spots to visit this weekend.

Alabaster, Alabama, 4-7-22

 Today we drove under beautiful skies. Stopped to fill up with gas from Flying J. 57 gallons, &298.00. Yikes! Using Harvest Host at Siluria Brewing Co.  we parked and waited for the brew house to open. I ordered Lady Grace (an amber wheat) and Dennis a stout. We even picked up two long sleeve shirts and dinner from a local food truck, Dock of the Bay, and watched the Masters on TV.  We met and chatted with two other traveling couples. One from St. Pete and the other from Washington state. Neat stories shared.  Gregg was our server. When we first came in the place was empty but now3 hours later it is packed!  Good brew and friendly crowd. Dogs are even welcome on leash. All in all an enjoyable evening.

Rebecca Ruth Candy

 If you like bourbon ball candy, this is where it originated. Ruth’s Candy factory. There are other stores, but this is the only place it is made. The company was started by two women before the Great Depression.  It lasted through that, WWII rationing and two fires. Ruth Booe invented the bourbon ball and the Kentucky Cornel Mint.  The factory is really quite small and yet they make and package over 3 million bourbon balls a year and over 5 million other candies. Ruth worked there well into her 80s and today it is run by her grandson. We were not allowed to photograph inside the factory but I was able to in their little museum. The local bourbon distilleries send over their bourbon and the factory makes special request candy to sell at the distillery. Yes Dennis got some with Makers Mark and Buffalo Trace bourbon and the original.
