March 26 Dillard, Clayton and Franklin
Windows open we decided to visit the local towns. In Clayton we went to a honey company we visited last year to restock our honey supply and mint/eucalyptus body butter for me (foot cream). After that we walked downtown historic Clayton. It was a nice walk, but sad to see some shops were no longer in business. The Veterans memorial was a small but beautiful park.
Next, we headed to The Dillard House for lunch. Neither of us had been there before and all the family insisted we go. It was very nice and the food was good. Of course I love fresh cat fish. We walked down to the stable and little farm. Nice visit. Next to the Dillard House was a bourbon distillery, RM Rose Distilleries. We were given a personal tour and dennis even tasted their corn whiskey 105 proof. It was interesting that RW started his distillery in Atlanta, GA in 1867 but had to stop production during prohibition. In 2009 they decided to restart the company and by 2016 they were open and doing well.
Next stop Franklin NC. I was looking for a material shop for my next quilt. Felix has requested a wild geometric pattern with only blue material. We walked Main St. and stopped in Scottish Tartan museum, a hiking outfitter for Dennis to get a better rainproof jacket. No fabric there but told where best to go by a local craft shop. “A stitch in Time” was an answer to prayer. The two ladies inside helped me find just the right fabrics for my next project.
Great day’s adventures. Hopefully we will go looking for waterfalls and hiking trail tomorrow.
