March 27. Foxfire Museum and 12 Spies
So today we thought we’d chance the threat of rain and go to the Foxfire Museum. I’m so glad we did. A rich source of mountain culture from around the mountain areas put together by students and adults researching the mountain culture. We met a young man, Micah Hettrick, using the forge since 2014 and making throwing axes (my nephew in law would be interested in that). Then we met Nancy with several years of weaving experience. We watched as she finished ups piece and told us about making/dying yarn from cotton and local wool. She said she could probably even name the different lambs the wool came from wow so cool. It was only listed as a quarter mile hike but took a good hour to look, read and enjoy.
Of course we decided on a Saturday to end our day at our favorite winery, 12 Spies (based on biblical reference). We chose the Chardonnay 2018. We are truly relaxing and missing our friends to enjoy this with. We then decided to go back to Clayton and have some pizza baked in a brick oven at Fortify. Very tasty!
