April 21 LA, WWII Museum
We are visiting with Dennis’s cousins and family in Mississippi on the border of Louisiana. We took a day to sight see in New Orleans at the WWII Museum. A lot of New Orleans is still devistated by Katrina and other hurricane. The roads were being worked on and finding places to park was some what confusing.
But, First we stopped at Cafe Du Monde for my first beignets and coffee. Then to the museum. I wanted to learn more about what my dad did in the Navy. He was a Naval Aviator and did reconnaissance in the Pacific. The movie offered at the beginning, Beyond All Boundaries, reviewed how the nation was and the world as a whole. It covered every aspect and point of view and they used actual film footage at the time. We then explored all the other features from art made by soldier, articles left on the beach from D-day, full size aircraft and artillery, and complete life sized dioramas of Europe and Pacific locations and movements. I found a B-24 bomber but they never talked about reconnaissance. We so enjoyed our time and stayed until it closed.
Afterwards we were going to go to Bourbon Street to eat, but Pat O’Brien’s was closed and the street had a lot of closed bars and shops with plywood shields. We ended up at Phil’s Marina, a harbor view, and had Po-boys.
Reunion time has been great with family joining us from Indiana, SC, FL, and Tenn. We wanted to ride the Mississippi but that got canceled due to weather. Lots of rain. More to see before we leave.
