Govenor’s Palace/Riverwalk cruise

We are learning how to use the bus system here (VIA). We visited the Spanish Governors’s Palace palace which was originally only two rooms. Over the years more rooms were added for storage and family living.

Interesting is that during restoration in 1930 “romantic license “ added more rooms and restored most of the building with what the designer thought it needed.
Still in all for a $3 fee it was interesting to see.
When we went to the Riverwalk we took a tour on the cruise boats that traverse the original acequia  or irrigation ditch flowing from the San Antonio river. This was built by the Canary colonists and Coahuiltecan(kwa-weel-telken) native Indians. The colonists were sent over by the King of Spain to help the Franciscan monks build missions.

Walking around the city we saw where the Tower of the Americas and the burrito red sculpture were left from the last World’s Fair. We learned more about the city and how commerce grew on the Riverwalk on a river boat.  It was extended with added dams to provide a solution to city flooding during the rainy season. All in all a history learning day ending with a Guiness for Dennis at a pub then a hurricane at Pat O’Brien’s. 😁
