Pueblo Colorado

Yesterday we relaxed and read our books. I managed to sit outside a bit and took binoculars down to the walking path, but saw only cattle. The owners of the park said you can sometimes see carabau or elk. No such luck. The sunset was nice even after a very cool cloudy day.

Today’s adventures began with Air Force jets buzzing over head. I tried to get a video but they were too fast. They were fun to watch.

Next we traveled to Pueblo Weisbrod Air Museum. This is where the B54 bomber pilots trained. My dad was a pilot in WWII. Unfortunately, they had no B54s here. They had a B59 whose wing span reached one side of the hanger to the next. Wow. I took lots of pictures. They have an all volunteer staff and the work done here is the refurbishing of old military aircraft. They even had a section for space travel. Really interesting.

The section on B54s was history, reconnaissance, and different insignia and nose art but I could not find my dad’s. The cameras shown may have been on dad’s plane.

We ate lunch at a restaurant called Black Eyed Pea. It was very good.

Next we went to the Pueblo Riverwalk. It was a 1 mile walk with a nice path and a lot of statue art representing the area.

One stop on our walk was the Center of American Values. It is actually a museum of pictures of Metal of Honor soldiers and their quotes about what it means to them. Very moving. Colorado has had four soldiers who earned that distinction and that is what prompted the museum. They have lecturers and school programs come through. I’m glad we went through it.

There is also a Veterans memorial bridge on the wall. All the names posted on the two black monuments reminded me of Washington DC. It began to rain as we ended the loop which was nice because it brought the temperature down.
