Wednesday the Medano Creek by the dunes
Today we left early enough to get into the park and find a great parking spot. The Creek is seasonal because it depends on the water coming down off of the mountainside from melting snow or rain.
Dennis and I walked down this 60 foot or more wide wet area where the water flowed in different paths. Only ankle deep in some places, I was fascinated by the frequent changes in the water’s flow, speed, and path. You can see in the many pictures different rocks and silt colors and patterns. We even found some animal tracks, mostly people and dogs, but also deer. I found what I thought was a snake track in the sand dune that came close to the water’s edge and Dennis thought he saw a turtle like track that led into a hole.
As I continued to walk Dennis chose to head back to the car. I was curries about the water source and if I might find it. I did not. What I did find was the further I moved away from people and families playing the surroundings became almost zen like. All I heard were birds and the flowing water. It was beautiful.
Late in the afternoon the wind picked up and the motor coach shuck quite a bit but like yesterday we only got a few drops. I think the mountains get the rain and it stops when the clouds are over the desert and dune area. Again the day ended with a wow of a sun set.
