Minuteman Missile Historic Park
Today we went to learn about the minuteman missiles. What a time in history! The video shown did a great job using interviews from the American and USSR side. The locals here either didn’t even notice or were very upset they were here. The land is so vast and not many people are here so the idea was that there would be less human life lost if the built the silos here.
There have been 6 recorded mishaps that could have resulted in firing of missiles, 3 were ours and three theirs. It makes you glad that they came to there senses and started taking down middles. Of course they are not all gone, but we have to hope those with their finger on that button think more than twice about what could happen. Mutual destruction is not a good thing.
After our visit in the visitors center and museum we traveled to the next town to find a place to eat lunch. Kadoka is another small town in the middle of nowhere. Two gas stations, a Subway and Sunset grill in the same building and a small whiskey distillery. Well we lunched at the Grille. Nothing to write home about and no we did not go to get whiskey. We are, filled the car with gas, came home. Dennis worked on more reservations and I wrote post cards. Now for a camp fire and pleasant evening reading.
Last night there was no fire because we had one heck of a wind and rain storm. The coach rocked so much I was afraid to have our slides out, but we got through it.
