Singing Hills

After an extended stay in Indianapolis Indiana we have moved on to Cave City, Kentucky to visit Mammoth Cave. We take our hike tomorrow but today we went to the Visitors Center and museum. After learning about the cave features, history and size we decided to take a river ferry to visit an Amish group of stores. Well after a long two lane park road drive we got to a sign that said road ends in water  turns out it is a very small crossing with a ferry for two cars  we never saw the operator and it was over in minutes.  On we went down a longer two lane highway for several miles  it was actually quite nice and shaded

Detweiler Country Store, Cub Run, Ky. The story goes thatDan and Ruth Detweiler, members of the Old Order Amish faith, left Ohio in 1997 for a new life. It was to be a slower pace of life. Instead they found themselves running a wonderful business now consisting of everything from camping and gardening supplies to books, jams and an assortment of dry goods. The food store was quite impressive (we bought candy and cookies). We also purchased a sub from the deli and ate lunch outside in their gazebo. No fabric to see although advertised but a lot of other sundries. An all right comprehensive country store. another section was for ammunition, fishing and hunting, and then a plant center. Oh and they had wood furniture for outside.
